Judge Joan “Toni”Stringer is
a native of Louisville.
She is a graduate of Kentucky State University, and the Indiana University School of Law at Bloomington. Judge Stringer
has a legal career that spans more than twenty (20) years. She has presided
in Jefferson District Court since her appointment to the bench in January, 2000.
Prior to her appointment, she served this community for 14 years as a prosecutor
for the Commonwealth’s Attorney. She also worked as a public defender for
3 years, in offices in Louisville, and in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Judge Stringer is very committed to community service.
She has served on a number of boards and committees in the legal arena, which
include the Louisville Bar Association, the Kentucky District Judges’ Association
Education Committee, Sullivan University Paralegal Studies Board, Teen Court, and others.
She is a volunteer for many community organizations, which include Prevention
2000, “Keeping Kids Safe,” Inc., Central High School’s Law and Government
Magnet, the Kentucky High School Mock Trial Competition, the “Color of Justice”
Symposium, and ECHO. In 1999, she was honored with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky’s
“Champion for Children” Award, and with WLKY TV’s prestigious Bell Award.
Most recently, she was honored in the March, 2006 edition of Today’s Woman
Magazine with the H.E.R. “Community Angel” Award.
