Lisabeth Hughes Abramson was sworn in as a Justice for the Supreme Court of Kentucky on September 10, 2007 after being nominated by the statewide, bi-partisan Judicial Nominating Commission and appointed by the Governor to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the late Justice William E. McAnulty, Jr. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Justice Abramson served three years as Judge on the Kentucky Court of Appeals where she participated in rendering more than 1000 appellate opinions. She also served as a Judge of the Jefferson Circuit Court for almost eight years where she presided over approximately 150 jury trials.

Before joining the judiciary, Justice Abramson practiced law in Louisville for fifteen years, concentrating in business and commercial litigation. Her practice included experience in several Kentucky circuit courts, the United States District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Kentucky, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit as well as pro hac vice admission in several other state and federal courts. As an attorney, she prepared briefs and presented oral arguments to the Kentucky Court of Appeals, the Kentucky Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She also practiced before several Kentucky administrative agencies as well as the United States Tax Court.

Justice Abramson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Louisville, graduating in 1977 with Highest Honors. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1980 and was named the Outstanding Graduate of her law school class. Justice Abramson currently serves as immediate past president of the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law Alumni Council, Chairperson of the Jefferson County Courts Planning and Coordinating Council, Co-Chair of the Mass Tort Litigation and Class Action Committee established by the Chief Justice, and as trustee of the Kentucky Judicial Form Retirement Board. She is a member of the Leadership Louisville Class of 2007 and has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumna of both the University of Louisville College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Law.

Justice Abramson has been married to Professor Leslie W. Abramson, University of Louisville School of Law, for over twenty-five years. They are the proud parents of three sons, Samuel Morris (24), Shelton Lawrence (22) and William Trice (18).
